Tricia Cunningham came up with the idea of the Backwards Diet in 1999 when she reached her highest weight ever of 292 pounds. For weight loss, she revamped her eating habits. She decided to change her diet by simply eating for breakfast what she would normally eat for dinner. Of course it wasn’t that simple. She maintained a healthy low-calorie diet that consisted of lean meats, vegetables, fruits and eggs. A breakfast might consist of a piece of fish and a vegetable soufflé, while for dinner she would eat oatmeal or shredded wheat soaked in orange juice.

Tricia reportedly lost 170 pounds in nine months and has kept it off for several years. She also credits the success of her diet to eating five cloves of garlic per day and drinking plenty of lemon water. This diet does not limit what people can eat, but it can only work if food is restricted to lean, low-calorie products. It’s not for everyone and some people have followed it with no results.

Does not require special food or products.
Incorporates healthy foods, including lean meats, fruits and vegetables.
Is not constrictive.

May require more cooking and meal preparation in the morning when there may not be as much time.
There are not many guidelines provided to inform people of what they should or should not eat. This diet will not likely work if you eat steak every morning and pancakes and bacon for dinner.
Eating raw garlic every day may do wonders for your metabolism, but may negatively affect your body odor.
