Full Name: The Maple Syrup Diet

Maple Syrup Diet Review

A sweet weight loss plan

Origin: Introduced in 1985 by a health company in Switzerland, the diet became popular in Europe and became a diet fad in North America in 2005 when actress Rachel McAdams declared that she drank maple syrup to get thin. In 2006, the Maple Syrup Diet was touted by actress/pop star Beyoncé Knowles.

Description: Very similar to the Lemonade Diet, the Maple Syrup diet means consuming a cocktail containing maple syrup, lemon juice, water and cayenne pepper.

Likes: Lemons, Madal Bal Natural Tree Syrup, water, cayenne pepper.

Dislikes: Everything else

Looking For: Beyoncé’s fans willing to try anything once to lose weight.

Works Well With: Maple sugar shack, pancakes…oh wait, scrap the pancakes because you aren’t allowed to eat them.

Sure, Beyoncé Knowles followed this diet by drinking maple syrup and lost 20 pounds. But she also admits to binging afterwards and gaining half the weight back. Let’s face it, anyone can starve themselves for two weeks and lose weight, but just how healthy is it? Beyoncé also reportedly spoke against the diet on British television, stating that she likely wouldn’t have followed a diet this strict if she hadn’t been preparing for a movie role. Dieticians and health experts insist that there is no scientific evidence that proves that detoxifying the body – by using a detox diet, for example - is better than a balanced diet. As well, cleansing diets deprive the body of the nutrients, carbohydrates and proteins required to function normally.

Safe and effective or not, a number of people have reported that they have tried the diet with success, enjoyed drinking maple syrup and did not feel deprived while doing it. This is a diet that would require strict maintenance afterwards though, and there is a strong likelihood that at least some of the weight would return.
