The Bernstein weight loss diet was created by a Canadian physician named Dr. Bernstein, as a medically-supervised weight loss plan. This low-calorie diet is meant to be followed under medical supervision at the Bernstein clinics, and requires the dieter to visit the clinic for weekly injections of vitamin B6 and B12. If you're terrified of needles - or of the doctors' offices in general - this diet may not be the one for you, no matter how much weight loss is promised!

This weight loss diet is completely unbalanced, as no dairy foods and few grain products are permitted. The Bernstein plan comes with a list of acceptable foods, which is very limited. It also only allows for 800-900 calories a day, which for most people will be an extremely difficult guideline to follow.

Unless you live nearby a Bernstein clinic, this weight loss diet is extremely inconvenient, due the necessity of weekly vitamin injections. Also, if you intend to travel or take a vacation it would be nearly impossible to stick to this plan. In summary, this weight loss diet is too low in calories to be healthy for dieters, particularly if the target goal is losing five pounds a week. If you want to lose weight and maintain your weight loss, the Bernstein weight loss diet is not your best option.
