Herber attempts to educate the public on the importance of consuming fruits and vegetables for healthy weight loss. Each group of vegetables is classified under a color code, with corresponding health benefits for each category. This diet wasn't created as a fad diet, but a diet for overall healthy weight loss and cancer prevention. The emphasis of the diet is on reducing fat and sugar in your plan, while upping your fruit and vegetable intake. It also recommends regular exercise which is an essential part of any weight loss diet.

According to Herber, most Americans consume a beige diet that consists of high-fat foods and too much sugar. A beige diet consists of foods such as bread, cakes, pastries and candy. The What is Your Color Diet attempts to increase your intake of fruits and vegetables, and eliminate some of the foods listed above. It is recommended that the average individual should be consuming at least five to nine servings of fresh fruits and vegetables everyday, however most Americans are only consuming three servings. There are some who even consider french fries a vegetable, but fried potatoes don't count! By including a wide variety of different fruits and vegetables you can reap full nutritional benefits.

Herber's book teaches the basics of nutrition, and promotes plenty of healthy lifestyle changes. It's a great resource to help clean up your diet and revamp your habits. You probably won't lose a lot of weight from following this diet, but you'll definitely feel better and have more energy overall. For healthy weight loss that'll last, this diet is a great choice.
