The healthy eating guidelines are brought to you by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The dietary guidelines are updated every five years to promote overall health and help reduce the risk of serious illness.
The USDA guidelines cover information such as weight management, physical activity, getting the most nutrients out of your calories, food groups and food safety. The USDA diet tells you what foods you should be eating, how much you should be eating and what nutrients you need for overall healthy weight loss.
I'm sure by now that you're aware of the four main food groups: grains, fruits and veggies, dairy, and meats and beans. They have been drilled into our heads since we were five years old, but most of us are unfamiliar with the suggested daily servings: 3 servings of dairy, 3 servings of carbohydrates / grains, 4 servings of fruits / vegetables, and the incorporation of lean meats and proteins in moderation.
The USDA diet follows three mains steps for healthy weight loss:
. Eat less than 2000 calories each day
. Incorporate all the different food groups into your diet
. Exercise 30-90 minutes daily
The problem with this diet is that it is very difficult to eat all of the suggested food servings while still staying under the 2000 calorie limit. Also, busy schedules that trap us into eating fast food or prepackaged meals make it almost impossible to follow this diet. However the good news is, by the time you have managed to eat from all the food groups, you won't have enough room in your stomach for anything else! ( That is, junk food, sweets, and so on.) Even with all its benefits however, this diet just seems too impractical for the modern lifestyle.they must have been dreaming when they came up with this one, but they get points for being optimistic.
