JLo loves her curves and doesn’t plan to ever become a size
zero. The mega star is featured in the May issue of Elle magazine and used the
opportunity to speak out about modeling industry standards that are causing
young girls to starve themselves. Portions of the interview were reported in
People magazine.
The Latin beauty reported that she loves her size 6 curves
and would not look healthy if she ever dropped enough weight to become model
skinny. She commented that many of the girls on the runways and in photos look
as though they need a good meal. Jennifer stressed that it has “got to the
point where models are dropping dead on catwalks.”
This singer and actress understands the kind of pressure
Hollywood puts on women, as she has been put in the spotlight for a number of
years for her curves and signature bottom. However, Jennifer is one star who
hasn’t given in to the demand to be skinny. She feels that women look more
beautiful is they look healthy rather than rail thin. Her secret is to eat
whatever she wants – fast food included – but watches her portion sizes. As a
result her weight hasn’t fluctuated more than a few pounds over the past
several years.
JLo is just one of several A-list female stars who have
begun to speak out against the entertainment industries body size standards.
Other celebrities who have chosen to embrace their curves include Kate Winslet,
Liv Tyler and Ugly Betty star America Ferrera. Some countries are beginning to ban
super skinny models from their fashion runways because of the growing concern
about anorexia among models who are competing to be skinny. Unfortunately the
United States has yet to follow suit. How many people – those who should be
making an impact – have to speak out before changes are made? Is fashion more
important than the lives of these young girls who are dying to fit into the
latest designs? It’s about time industry leaders became accountable.
