The next time you pour a cup of tea you may want to skip the milk. According to a new study conducted by the University of Berlin, the cardiovascular effects of tea are eliminated when milk is added. There is strong evidence that suggests that drinking black tea regularly can lower the risk of heart disease and stroke.
Researchers also found that tea may help protect against tumors and that milk may affect that benefit as well.
In not entirely related news, a recent study has concluded that it is actually full-fat milk, rather than low-fat milk, that may cause weight loss. The study - featured in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in December 2006 - found that women who consumed on serving of a full-fat dairy product daily saw less weight gain over nine years than women who did not. However, the results differed depending on the type of dairy product so more research is needed for results to be considered conclusive.
So, is full-fat dairy beneficial for your diet or weight loss plan? Because the evidence is very preliminary it is best to stick to low-fat dairy products that are much lower in saturated fats.
