Sugar Crash


I woke up this morning with a serious sugar crash. I have to admit for the past four days straight I have done nothing but eat sugar and not-so-healthy choices. It started Friday at a dinner at a friend's place and continued until last night. Like most years I promised myself I would at least try to stay on track this year but the call of chocolate was just too loud to ignore. It seems that all your hard work throughout the year can go down the drain by simply indulging a little too much over the holidays. You can't wish away all those extra calories but here are some quick tips that can certainly help you get back on track before the New Year:
 
1. Carry Healthy Snacks with You - whether you're on of the unfortunate ones who have to go back to work or if you're spending time at home hitting the boxing day sales, pack yourself some healthy treats. Carry an apple or some unsalted and unroasted nuts to prevent yourself from reaching for (more) choices that don't fit in your plan.

2. Exercise - it's a busy time of year but it's still important to get moving and shake off some of those extra calories. If you don't have time to hit the gym at least put on your running shoes and go for a long walk or jog outdoors.

3. Get Some Rest - the holidays are a busy time of year and many of us end up sleep-deprived which causes us to rely on sugary treats and coffee for energy. Instead, catch a few zzz's and you'd be surprised how better you'll feel than ODing in coffee.

Those are my goals for today. I'm not going to tell you that it's easy to stick to your plan over the holidays. But at least try to stay on track by making small goals for yourself. For example, my goal for today is to avoid chocolate and to make sure I get at least 45 minutes in at the gym.
