A recent study conducted by the University of South
Australia found that a daily dish of fish oil can
help with weight loss. Apparently, the Omega-3 fatty acids which are found in
fish oil can help increase the body’s fat-burning ability.
The study was conducted over three months on overweight and
obese participants and was composed of two study groups. One of the study groups
exercised daily and was broken into a group that took fish oil and a group that
did not. The other group did not exercise regularly and was also broken into a
group that took the fish oil caps and a group that did not.
At the end of the study, the researchers found that those
who took a daily dose of fish oil and exercised regularly lost an average of 2
kg over the duration of the study. It’s also important to note, food and
portion sizes weren’t restricted during this study.
Fish oil is a beneficial supplement that can be used for a
variety of different conditions. Fish oil can lower triglycerides, reduce the
risk of heart attacks and strokes, lower blood pressure slightly, help with
skin irritation and may aid in relieving depression. Everyday more and more
studies are popping up that show how beneficial fish oil can be in our diet.
I personally supplement with fish oil caps every single day.
I try to take about 6 g a day, which amounts to two capsules three times a day.
This may seem like a lot but once you incorporate it into your day it will
become part of your routine. You can buy a huge bottle of fish caps at Costco
or Sam’s club. They’ll last for a long time. Just make sure to take your caps
with food and lots of water - that way you won’t get that fishy taste throughout
the day (which is especially gross in the morning).
I’m not trying to say that fish oil alone will help you lose
weight, but combined with regular exercise and sensible eating habits it will
certainly help you reach your goals.
