Cookie Monster Promotes Healthy Eating

Childhood obesity is becoming a serious issue and in a positive step Sesame Street has decided to promote healthier eating habits and encourage regular exercise through some of the popular characters on the show. Cookie Monster will no longer be bingeing on cookies and will now promote his sweet cravings as a ‘sometimes food’ instead of a daily binge. In attempt to become healthier and guide children to choose more balanced choices. Cookie Monster’s theme song is even going to be changed to “cookies are sometimes food.”

Many are rejecting the idea saying that Cookie Monster is known for eating cookies and changing this would taint his image. However, the characters on Sesame Street are great role models for kids and it’s important that healthy food choices and balanced meals are promoted.

Word up!
The draw of cookies is enough on its own without watching one of your favorite TV characters eat cookies all the time. I have no idea how clear the lines are between healthy eating television role models and maintaining a proper weight but kids do seem to copy much of what they see.
