Let’s see, where shall we start? Oprah has had so many
different diets that it’s hard to keep track! It seems that in the past Oprah
hasn’t had the discipline to diet and exercise; and without discipline success
is hopeless.
Back in 1988, Oprah went on her now deeply-regretted liquid diet where
she lost 67 pounds. She consumed nothing but liquid protein shakes and
basically starved herself thin for four months, “to get into that pair of size
10 Calvin Klein jeans.” She now says that it was her “biggest, fattest”
mistake. Of course when she reached her goal, she started eating again to
celebrate, and before you knew it she was bursting the button right off those
pants!
In 1994, Oprah stated that she had finally gained victory
over her lifelong weight problem, all thanks to her personal chef Rosie Daley.
Soon after came the publication of the book In the Kitchen with Rosie
, which sold millions of copies. However, you can now
find these same copies buried in the piles at the second-hand shop. Why so?
Well because not long after her dramatic weight loss, Oprah packed the weight
back on and said farewell to Rosie.
In this recount of her history, we can’t forget Oprah’s
panel of weight loss gurus - in particular Jorge Cruise, creator of the 3-Hour
Diet. Cruise has become famous in the dieting scene only because he is
associated with Oprah’s so-called weight loss experts. But it seems Cruise’s 8 Minutes
in the Morning Workout Routine definitely didn’t work for Oprah, so why
would it work for anyone else?
Lately she’s been hooking up with fitness and nutrition
specialist Bob Greene. Greene has authored dozens
of exercise and diet books, and has created not just another diet (because he
doesn’t believe in diets) but an entire lifestyle change that he calls a Total
Body Makeover. He claims it holds the key to achieving lasting results - but
even he can’t seem to keep Oprah’s weight under control, as she’s gaining
again. Since joining with Greene, she has packed nearly 60 pounds back on - not
one for the resume, Mr. Greene. In fact, Oprah seems to be becoming the
diet-expert demolisher. Exactly how many careers does she have to ruin before
she can get control of her problem?
Apparently, Oprah has stated that she will always have weight
issues until she is able to find the underlying problem - maybe she should keep
this information in mind when she’s signing up for the next fad diet! If she’s
going to continue to portray herself as fitness expert, she’ll have to find a
way of achieving some long term results - right now she’s just opening the door
for criticism.
