There is an incredible amount of pressure on celebrities,
particularly female celebrities, to look beautiful. Not only must they have
flawless skin, beautiful hair and impeccable fashion sense, they also are
expected to have perfect bodies. Paparazzi watch them constantly, waiting to
capture a love handle, loose tummy or a hint of cellulite. Whether they are
getting ready to film a movie, begin a concert tour, have just had a baby or
are just out in public stars are forced to look their best, at almost any cost.
Celebrities have gone to some unusual, and in some cases, extreme lengths to
look hot. Let’s take a look at Diet Nation’s top 5 wacky celebrity fad diets:
1. Beyoncé Knowles’
Maple Syrup and Cayenne Pepper Diet - Beyoncé surprised fans and worried
health professionals last August when she boasted using the Maple Syrup Diet, a
variation of the Lemonade Diet, to lose 20 pounds for Dreamgirls. The diet
consisted of drinking a concoction of lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper
and water for two weeks straight, and nothing else. Beyoncé later told a media
outlet that she wouldn’t recommend the diet and only did it to prepare for a
movie role. She also gained 12 pounds back.
2. Rachel McAdams’
Maple Syrup Diet - similarly, in 2005 actress Rachel McAdams caused a bit
of an uproar when she announced losing weight for her role in Red Eye
by drinking maple syrup. She said the sugar
content made her run around like crazy and lose the weight. Needless to say,
dieticians everywhere were quick to respond and point out the dangers of
drinking straight maple syrup, like diabetes.
3. Reese Withersppon’s
Sushi Diet - when Reese Witherspoon wanted to get rid of her baby weight
after giving birth to second child Deacon in 2003 she reportedly shed the
pounds by eating nothing but sushi and drinking plenty of water.
4. Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Cabbage Soup Diet - Sarah
Michelle Gellar is reportedly no stranger to diets designed to drop weight
quickly. She has been named as one celebrity who lost weight by using the Cabbage Soup Diet. Dieters eat mostly cabbage soup
for seven days straight, while incorporating some fruits, vegetables and lean
meats.
5. Elizabeth Hurley’s Caveman Diet - Elizabeth Hurley has a
healthy diet of fish and vegetables now, but has tried a few fad diets in the
past. She reportedly tried the Caveman's Diet
after giving birth to son Damian in 2003. The diet means eating just one meal
each day. It is also reported that she has used a variation of the Cabbage Soup
Diet, substituting cabbage soup for watercress soup.
