Duff Doesn’t Diet to Stay Buff

In a refreshing interview about her lifestyle and her thoughts on dieting teenage pop star singer/actress Hilary Duff stated that she would never resort to fad dieting to help her lose weight. She said: "I think some of the crazy diets that people try are really bad. There are ones where people eat six sultanas a day. The Atkins is wrong too. I don't think it's good to deprive your body of things like carbohydrates. Everyone should eat things in moderation."

Hilary is definitely setting a good example for younger generations by publicly announcing that she shuns fad diets, however, what she says it somewhat contradictory to how she actually looks. Recently Hilary has started to melt away and some have speculated that she might have an eating disorder. Granted, Hilary is still quite young and most women can go though significant fluctuations in their weight as they mature but Hilary literally went from plump and meaty to lean and stringy overnight. Beyond her weight loss, it looks as though Hilary has made some other transformations to her image such as a new set of porcelain teeth. As a female under the spotlight Hilary said she is constantly pressured by her publicists to look a certain way and to be a certain size.

In a recent interview with Star magazine, Hilary stated that she’s been in an ongoing tiff with Lindsay Lohan for the past four years over the girl’s former flame Aaron Carter. Hilary revealed that she’s still not ready to put their differences in the past and would never acknowledge Lindsay if she ran into her.

This just reminds us how young and vulnerable these girls are. They are pressured to conform to a certain image at such a young age when they are still maturing and developing their own identities. It’s unfortunate that these women are also pressured to weigh a certain amount and sometimes have to go to great lengths to achieve an unnatural body weight.

I commend Hilary on attempting to set a good example by slamming some of the fad diets out there but her good intentions go awry as she continues to whittle away.

I remember the first time I saw Hilary's transformation into svelt goddess--I did a quick double-take and couldn't believe that was the "Lizzie Maguire" I knew and loved.
I admit to being mesmerized by celebrity weight loss and will read any article featuring glossy pictures of thinning actresses--yes, I'm influenced and can only imagine the pressure teenage girls feel to keep thin. The pressure was on when I was a teenager, but not like it is today. Plus, young girls seem to have no other role models than the ones graced on magazine covers or in music videos. Something's not right.
It's disturbing that these actresses rely so much on their publicists and stylists opinions--do they not have a mind of their own? Obviously, not. As you mentioned in a previous entry, celebrities have way different gains and aspirations than the rest of us. Their job is their image--and they're going to great strides to keep thin and are hurting themselves in the meantime.
Hilary's comments about Lindsay Lohan only emphasize how young these girls really are. They're just teenagers, but aren't really living the life of a "real" person.
