Ask Kristine Q&A

High Protein Diet

Q: I need 60 grams of protein a day and yet have to stay within a 1,200 calorie diet with 6 meals a day. How can that happen and where can I find good resources?

A: There are many high protein foods that will allow you to stay within 1,200 calorie per day limit. Fish is an excellent source or protein and many white fishes, like cod and tilapia, are very low in fat and calories. Beans, including kidney, pinto and black beans, also very high in protein. You can also incorporate low fat dairy products into your diet, as well as tofu. Check out the Maintenance Diets section on Diet Nation. One option may be the Protein Power Diet.
