Health Benefits of Avocados

Q: How healthy are avocados?

A: Avocados are one of the healthiest foods on the planet. This fruit contains more than 25 nutrients including vitamins B, E, K and folic acid and the mineral potassium. These nutrients help to reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke and some cancers. It is an excellent source of fiber and also helps the body to absorb other nutrients like beta carotene. Avocados are high in monosaturated fat – a healthy fat that may help to lower cholesterol levels. Avocados are high in calories but are great additions to dishes including salads, soups, sandwiches and dips.
